Program focus

Sourcery Academy for Developers in The Gambia is a hands-on accelerated course on software development designed by employees of Devbridge, and facilitated locally in The Gambia by employees of the leading technology services firm, Assutech.

Outcomes

The objective of the course is to enable technology students in The Gambia to improve their skills and prepare for a career in the global technology industry. All students who successfully complete the course will be referred for opportunities as Junior Software Engineers at leading technology companies in The Gambia.

What to expect from Sourcery Academy

All interested students must be currently enrolled in an ICT program at an accredited university in The Gambia and submit an application by 5th May 2021. You may be required to provide proof of enrollment prior to admissions.

devbridge icon.

Interested student candidates need to apply by the deadline of the application submission in order to receive details about the admission test. This admission test is for all candidates who want to enroll in the academy. The test is designed to check the candidate's understanding of Basic OOP, JavaScript, and C# knowledge as well as assess the candidate’s passion for self-development. Test results define an admission priority list of candidates. We will accept 10 candidates with the highest marks into the academy.

Students who are selected for the boot camp will learn how to create software using the best tools on the market in a course designed by the best engineers in the business. Courses will start on 22nd May 2021.

Students have to attend three-hour-long weekly lectures (once per week) where experts from Assutech will teach cutting-edge web technologies over 12-weeks. Furthermore, each student will be assigned a technology mentor to serve as a resource during custom development projects. Also, each student will have the opportunity for weekly career coaching by leaders of Devbridge and Assutech.

At the end of the boot camp, all students will receive recognition for completing the course and top graduates may be referred for opportunities as Junior Software Engineers at leading technology companies in The Gambia.

We will notify all successful applicants of acceptance into the Academy by 17th May. Notifications will be shared via the email address provided during the registration process.

This is to ensure that all applicants have a basic understanding of software development as the course is designed to accelerate learning through hands-on training.

To get the best out of the program and graduate successfully, we recommend that you dedicate 10-15 hours per week. Approximately three hours should be dedicated to each lecture. The rest of the time should be dedicated to completing the team project and homework assignments.

The admission test is designed to check your understanding of logic, and proficiency in C#, JavaScript, OOP, SQL basics, software analysis, and design skills. To be successful, you need to show up on time at the location where the test will be held. Location and time of the admission test will be shared once you submit an application.

You should bring a pen, a form of identification, and proof of university enrollment for the admission test. No other materials or electronic devices will be allowed during the test. The duration of the test is 2hours. There won't be any negative grades for wrong answers. The best-performing students will receive direct invitations to the academy. We are only accepting 10 candidates with the highest marks into academy.

Yes, a personal laptop is required. However, in case you do not have it, there may be the opportunity to use a laptop only during lectures. Arrangements will be discussed following successful admission into the Academy.

This is not a certification program. This is an academy designed to teach practical skills required for Junior Software engineers to kickstart their careers. We believe the best way to learn is by doing. Therefore, this academy will build your knowledge through lectures with hands-on exercises. Also, each student will need to complete a project that will utilize the lessons learned during the course.

The academy will be 12-weeks long starting on 22nd May 2021. Lectures will be held weekly on Saturdays between 11 am and 2 pm.
